This girl is from our April 2022 Litter! This is her story!
We co-owned Brielle with a breeder out of Florida.
Joker came to us from a breeder in Oklahoma.
These two dogs truly marked our hearts as their own.
She isn't spoilt at all! Just ask her!
Little Joke started her life as the first born puppy of Brielle and Joker. She also had a different name, Kalliope. We had a family totally fall in love with her on day 1. For weeks they asked about her visited her, and seemed set to embrace her into their family on go home day. The day before pick up, they texted and said they couldn't take her. That was a bit disappointing but we were happy they decided before they picked her up and she was left in our care. She was a breeders choice, as the pup back, but we had been told to sell her and send money to stud owner. No big deal to us. However my then mentor, and Brielles co-owner, got involved and things got so complicated and frustrating. It was a mess. We listened to the wrong person and scorched some bridges. We eventually made it all good with the stud owner and have since worked hard to rebuild that bridge stronger and more secure.
We still had Kalliope, we had changed her name to Lil Joke at that point. The original family came back and asked if we would consider letting them have this pup. We thought long and hard, took a deposit, delivered the puppy and signed a payment plan contract with the new family. All seemed very well. What we didn't know at the time was our "mentor" was in the ear of the new family. Payments were made for a few weeks, then the family stopped responding to texts and messages. Since they were close we drove over and asked for payment or the dog. They utterly refused. They informed us that the co-owner of Brielle said they didn't owe anything because this was a split litter and she had said they could have the dog, she would get them papers for her. We had the papers for this dog at that time. We still have the puppy card (ABKC) for this dog. We let them know we were the ones with the papers not the co-owner from Florida! That's when threats to us and to harm this amazing girl started. Things like "I will make the dog useless to you and bring her to you then" made our stomachs turn. We didn't know what to do, so contacted law enforcement to ask questions. It became a civil matter. We still weren't sure how or when to proceed. When asking the family to follow through on contract, we were advised the contract was invalid due to an opioid addiction of the signer of the contract, that only the page indicating what would happen if they didn't pay was the full contract. We tried as hard as we could to get the dog or payment for the dog. In the end we didn't want any harm to the dog, and yet another failed attempt at settling with the family, we backed off out of fear for the safety of the pup!
In June 2023 around 4:45 am we received a text from one of the adults in the family. She stated she had the dog and was bringing her to our house at that time.We met them in our driveway, in pajamas and all! We snatched the pup up right away! She came to us with no hesitation. We feel like she knew she was home and safe. Once inside the house, we could see her fully! At least 20 pounds underweight, covered in sores! In to the bath we went! As soon as the water hit her tiny frail body it was a flea explosion! There were so many fleas our white bathtub/shower turned black! Several washes, combing and picking and an hour and a half later we felt we had gotten at least 99% of the fleas removed. Her ears were bloody with mites or fleas. She was in bad shape to say the least. The person who brought her back did indeed tell us she didn't want the pup to live this way and that is why she brought her back. We will forever be grateful for her and the decision she made. In our conversations following the return, she advised us that the co-owner in Florida stated she would register the pup or had registered the pup! We knew there was no way she could have ethically registered the dog since we had the puppy card, but she was adamant the pup had been registered. We asked for the papers and that is when the conversation ended.
Little Joke is still with us and as you can tell by her photos, she is healthy, spoilt rotten and happy. We absolutely love this girl with our entire hearts! She is the daughter of two of our all time favorite Oldes and we are blessed to have her with us!
The co-owner however has made our life a living hell since we broke ties with her. We broke ties with her after she sent FIVE incredibly sick dogs on transport. These adults and puppies were worm ridden and spent a very long time suffering the effects of the lack of care on this "breeder's" part. We spent time hand feeding these babies and hydrating them around the clock because they were too weak to even stand to drink water. We got them all healthy. We then asked for contracts or agreements on the dogs, no reply. Ignored for approx a month. Literally no response to text, phone calls, messages. That is when we decided that we had to take action. In October 2022, a message was sent informing her that dogs needed to be removed from our property. There was a lot of back and forth and in the end we paid to ship all the dogs back to her. Boy was she mad! She did demand that Brielle be sent back and told me that someone local had her permission to come get her. NOPE! Just nope, didn't happen! To our credit, the shipper didn't even recognize the pups and adult she had deliver approx 6 weeks earlier when she picked them up to return them to Florida!
Co-owner has and continues to refuse to sign the puppy card for this pup (we sent signed puppy cards for all puppies she claimed in the split litter in 2022). Early in December 2023, she finally answered her phone and agreed to sign the puppy card if we emailed it to her. She even said to call her the following Monday to remind her so she could get it done. On Monday we were back to being ignored via email and phone calls. She has since sent me a message through another person that if we want the puppy paper signed we need to pay her $1000. She has stated we broke the contract by not breeding the mom again; we didn't breed because she has to approve stud. She did approve one stud after the "break-up" however the AI didn't take and no puppies were produced. We would have bred the dog had the co-own ever responded to our attempts to communicate with her! However April-October 2022, there was no broken contract and papers should have been signed.
Even with all this, we love our Little Piece of Joker and she isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Her plan is to produce some amazing service and companion candidates and carry on the Legacy of Brielle and Joker! And our plan is to always be about the dogs more than the money!
